Set it up your way

  • Choose the language

Pick it on first open. Change it any time from the pencil next to its name in the menu.

  • Hear it in English too

The switch at the top plays each word in English instead, for grown-ups learning alongside.

  • Pick the family in the pictures

Keep the family that comes with your language, choose another, or see a different family each day.

  • Save favourite words

Hold a card to save it. Saved words collect under the star.

  • Grown-up things stay grown-up

Buying takes a press-and-hold. Settings, restore and links sit behind a quick sum a toddler can’t do.

  • Works offline

Every picture and word is inside the app. No internet, no account, no ads.

The seven families

The Family cards, and the children in Actions, Feelings and Body Parts, come in seven families.

  • Family 1
  • Family 2
  • Family 3
  • Family 4
  • Family 5
  • Family 6
  • Family 7

Questions parents ask

Who is First100 for?

Children from about 1 to 4, and the grown-ups beside them. A child touches a picture and hears the word; there is nothing to read and nothing a small finger can tap that leaves the app.

What is free, and what do purchases unlock?

Animals, Colors, Family and Food & Drink are free in every language. $2.99 unlocks all 12 categories in one language, and $7.99 unlocks them in every language. Each is a one-time purchase: no subscription, no ads.

Does it need the internet?

No. Every picture and every word is inside the app, so it works on a plane or with no signal.

Where do the words come from?

100 first words in every language, taken from the vocabulary young children learn first and checked language by language against published dictionaries.

Who speaks the words?

A clear, natural-sounding voice chosen for each language, checked with a listening test so each word sounds like itself.

Do the pictures show families like mine?

The app has seven families. Each language starts with one, and in the grown-ups area you can pick another family or show a different one each day.

Does the app collect anything about my child?

No accounts, no ads and no tracking in the app. Purchases go through Apple.

Is it on Android?

Not yet. First100 is on iPhone and iPad first.
